Completing Route 66

From Williams we visited Seligman which has built a huge tourist business around route 66,  When we arrived in town we counted 10 tour buses parked along the highway.  Next we stopped at the Grand Canyon Caverns for a tour of the caverns 230 ft below the surface.  The caverns are noteworthy as they are one of the few “dry” caverns in the country.  From the caverns we headed toward Oatman.  The drive from Kingman to Oatman was outstanding and were were lucky to see herd of desert big horn sheep.  In Oatman the focus of course was on the burros which has made that town famous.  During the mining days in Oatman burros were used in the mines as pack animals.  However, when the mines closed in the early 1900’s the burros were set free.  Today decedents of those burros freely roam the streets of Oatman.  While they are wild they are actually are very accustom to people and are very gentle.
