Flowers in the Desert

This past week spent a week camping in the desert.  With summer fast approaching this will be the last desert camping trip until fall.  For the next six months or so we will be enjoying trips to the mountains plus our major 6-8 week trip this summer (destination is still a secret but it will be North!).  This time of the year the desert is really beautiful with all the plants blooming and lots of fresh green growth.  The Sonoran Desert, this time of the year, is definitely living up to it’s nick name the “green desert”.

Of course while you are looking at all the beauty you have to always keep an eye out for all kinds of desert creatures.  While out bike riding a dirt road came across this guy.  He was about 4’ long diamond back.  I have lived in the desert for over 33 years now and this is only the second time I have encountered a rattler in the wild.  After seeing this guy I noticed lots of snake tracks across the roads so they are definitely out in force this year.

  1. I love your flower pictures. The desert is definitely gorgeous this year. And I noticed yesterday the Saguaro's are budding and we should have beautiful blooms before too long. However, all this pollen has really done a number on me this year.
